A 1760 engraving of the French Royal Galley La Reale by Frenchmen Denis Diderot and Jean d'Alembert, apart of their Encyclopedia, or Reasoned Dictionary of Sciences, Arts, and Crafts. According to DePaul University's Special Collections and Archives La Reale was built in 1694 and measured 170 feet long and 21 feet wide with at least 26 rowing benches. A rare look into French shipbuilding before the French Revolution this engraving measures 32 and a half inches by 26 and half inches including the frame.
