Description: "Reconnaissance of Washington Sound and Approaches, Washington Territory," is an early federal hydrographic chart directed by Superintendent Alexander Dallas Bache. This antique coastal chart, shows the coast and islands of the Washington Sound or Salish Sea, Strait of Georgia, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and San Juan Islands with an inset of Admiralty Inlet and Puget Sound. Published by the US Coast Survey in their Annual Report of 1862. Seattle is noted on the inset map, but the larger map does not extend south enough to include it. The area that would become Vancouver is located at the top of the map, but is noted only with Fort Langley and Cowitchin Village. With bathymetric data, and information on light houses and tides. Has toning that is darker along the folds and at the edges, some minor wear along the folds and small holes at fold intersections, some minor small spots.
