To which is prefixed, An Introductory Narrative of a Voyage performed in 1786, from Bengal, in the Ship Nootka; observations on the probable existence of a North West Passage; and some account of the trade between the North West Coast of America and China; and the latter country and Great Britain.
Description: The long boat the Felice (Entrée des Détroits de Jean de Fuca), one of Meare's vessels, at the entrance of the strait of Juan de Fuca, in June, 1788, from an illustration drawn by T, Stothard and engraved by J. Wells. Published in Meares's Voyages, London 1790. On the right is Cape Flattery; on the left, the Vancouver Island shore; in the background the Olympic Mountains. The high rock in the centre is intended for Tatoosh Island. Though the British flag is shown, all contemporary accounts agree that the flag actually flown was that of Portugal.
This is one of the first views of the straits of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. The view shows the long boat of Feliz, one of the Meares' vessels greeted by, what appears, to be the Makha Indians at the entrance of the Striat Juan de Fuca in June 1788.
Condition: A due to no blemishes, contains folding seams
