Description: Bellingham Bay sits on a northwestern point of Washington State only a few bays and harbors away from the Canadian-U.S. Border. Lynn Middleton writes that, "Vancouver named it 'Bellingham Bay', presumably after Sir William Bellingham, who had checked over his supplies and accounts on leaving England. The same year the Spaniards again charted the bay and renamed it 'Bahia de Gaston', however, the Spanish charts were not published for years, while the British charts appeared promptly and fixed the name permanently. It has also been known as 'Ballsam Bay', and 'Gaston Bay'"(22).
