Description: A beautiful map the illustrates perfectly why the area was called Shoalwater Bay. As at low tide the sandy areas marked on the map would become dry ground and perilous to ships near by. According to Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe the area was named by the Englishman John Meares in 1792 though the name was eventually changed to Willapa Bay a name maintained to this day.
A light backing has been placed on both maps to offer additional support to the aging paper. Both maps are nearly identical to each other differing only in slight cosmetic details.
